STEP 1- We admitted we were powerless over our addictions (problems) and that our lives had become unmanageable.

THE PROBLEM

Powerless?  Unmanageable? Ouch!  That is too painful to admit for those of us who are trying to convince ourselves that we don’t need anyone’s help and we are good enough to do this on our own.  We associate needing help with weakness and shame so instead of being honest we lie to ourselves and everyone else only making matters worse. The good news is that God existed BEFORE the first step and if we can at least admit to God that we need His help to even admit that we can’t do it alone, He will help us!

THE PROMISE

Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV)

13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well

THE PRAYER

God help me to admit that I need you. Help me to accept that I can’t do this on my own. Help me be willing to be willing to admit that I need a power greater than myself to restore me to sanity.  Thank you for hearing me!

SPEAK TO ME GOD, I AM LISTENING!

I have never nor will I ever ask anything of you that I will not equip you to do. I created you and I am concerned about everything that happens. I will go before you and I will make a way for you to get through each moment. I will carry you through those hard times. Just give me a chance. I love you!
