Where have I been? My readers and listeners have been asking. One word- CORONAVIRUS! It started with a phone call on February 5th from a company I have been on call with for over 2 years. Kind of like being in the National Guard. We only get called to serve when there is a disaster of some sort.
For over a month I have been answering the phone for 12 hours or more a day listening to people who are scared, frustrated, sick or in some cases dying from the effects of the Coronavirus COVID 19. Life is unpredictable! We never know which way it is going to turn and much of it is outside of our control. Whether or not we are exposed to a disease is out of our control unless we lock ourselves in our homes and never leave. Whether or not our bodies are able to fight against illness is also something that is already in motion, however there is a great many things that we can do to boost our immune systems and prevent the spread of germs.
Some people blame God. It is not God’s fault that bad things happen to good people. The world is in motion and it is up to us to seize the opportunities to make each moment of our time on earth count. What I have realized in these last few weeks is that things ebb and flow with or without our permission. Ecclesiastes chapter 3 tells us all about it and the popular band the Byrds sang about in the 1965 hit when they put music to the first eight versus of that chapter in their hit song “Turn, Turn, Turn.” Here is the link – The Byrds- Turn Turn Turn
I have been struggling with losing momentum of marketing my book Speak to Me God I’m Listening-365 Daily Meditations for Those Who Want To Hear God Answer Life’s Toughest Questions and the workshops and retreat and speaking I was planning to do when I got home from my book launch in December. I was feeling badly that I dropped the ball until I realized there is something right now that is much more important in the big scheme of things than my marketing efforts. It is being here for the people who need to hear a caring voice on the other end of that phone as they are stuck in a foreign country, in a stuffy room on a ship, in their homes or a hospital bed. Some of them are planning an untimely funeral or fearing one is to come and they need hope and I am the only faucet they may be able to tap into today to get a drink of it.
I can’t offer anyone a cure but I can do my part to show I care. I can commit to them that I will tell you and anyone who will listen that if we as community members don’t step up to prevent the spread of this and many other diseases we will pay the price. It is the natural order of things. Simple things like staying home when you are sick, washing your hands frequently with soap and keeping your distance from people who are sick can save lives.
There is a time for everything my friend and this is my time to serve these people. Sharing my books with the world will come later…(or maybe it is your calling to share my book now? Hmm there’s a thought 🙂 Far better to get promotion from others than to do it yourself!
So I ask you, what season are you in? Are you doing what God is calling you to do right now? Are you making the most out of every day and living in His grace to do it? If not, it is time to start.

WHERE THE BYRDS SONG CAME FROM
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
3 For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.
2 A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
3 A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
4 A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
5 A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
6 A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
7 A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
8 A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.
