Every time we have a new election I look at this post that I wrote in 2016 and my decision on who to put my money on is the same. We all know that this country is a long ways from being great again no matter who is president because we all have to do our part to make that happen. Covid-19 ran rampant in our nation during the last election and our country is still divided on how to deal with that and many other issues. Health care is still unreachable for many, homelessness is still a huge problem, prisons are filled with mentally ill and chemically dependent people who should be in treatment rather then incarcerated, the borders, climate control and abortion are still huge areas of contention and the economy has taken a dive because of everything going on in the world and how the world is dealing with it. Of greatest concern to me in 2016 and even more so today is the unrest between people that has at times even become violent. SO WHO DO WE VOTE FOR TO MAKE THINGS BETTER?
Unfortunately republicans, democrats, or any elected official isn’t going to fix all these problems but WE are! You and me and every other resident in this country will be the agents of change by using the skills, talents abilities, interests and experiences we have all been given to do what no president ever has or ever will be able to do; make a difference in the lives of those only we come in contact with every day.
You see it is we the people that founded this country and made it great. It is we the people who have to decide what we will do with President John F Kennedy’s suggestion “ask not what our country can do for us but what we can do for our country. WE are the ones that have to catch the vision of what needs reform, be the champions of change and offer the hope for the future.
It was the visionaries and the common people, that led the way until 1789, nearly 300 years ago that our first President was elected. It was we the people that wrote the constitution and it will be WE the people that will “make America great again,” not one leader because “it takes the whole village” to raise a child and change a nation.
As a Christian, I believe that God knows what He is doing. We don’t. We may think we know what God’s will is for everyone but we are human and we are selfish in our motives. We are accountable to do as He leads us but we must then live Romans 8:28 as we rest in His promise that “God works all things together for the good for those who love Him and are called according to His purposes”
Only God knows who truly loves Him and He knows that by our fruits. Are we living Matthew 25 and helping those who are homeless, naked, hungry, thirsty, sick and in prison? Are we living I Corinthians 13 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.. Love never fails”
So as we consider the future, consider what you can do to be part of the WE that will change history by doing what our forefathers committed to when they wrote the Pledge of Allegiance and promised to keep this ”one nation, under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.” Only we as individuals can make that happen so who do I vote for?
I vote for YOU because I choose to believe there is a spiritual power working in and through you to urge you to live and vote in the spirit of love. And whatever happens on election day, remember “Gow works all things together for good!.
